A website I designed and illustrated when working at MC as been featured in the Creative Review Blog talking about one of the briefs that is on the site and a general overview of what the project is about. It’s one my favourite projects I’ve worked on due to the nature of the website and the fun, creative spirit that it portrays. I mean come on, there’s a scuba-diving-shark-sheep!
Just a quick blog post to mention a brand new app from the team behind Computer Arts magazinewho have recently set up the website ‘Creative Bloq‘. It’s a fantastic source of inspiration from graphic design, web design – all sorts! They have released an iPad app earlier this month which features regularly updated inspirational content for people to check out and get their creative juices flowing. Amongst the first few pieces of inspiration my ‘Imaginary Worlds’ piece was featured.
The app works well for looking at the detail of the 5ft drawing and has inspired myself to create an app just for the purpose of observing the illustration in higher zoom levels. (On a side note I’m looking at getting full size screen prints of this piece made, anyone interested?). There’s also a wide variation of awesome illustrations and such to enjoy.
I’ve decided to create an awesome new newsletter for you lovely people to keep up to date with what I’m working on, be it print work, exhibitions etc. You won’t get bombarded I promise, short and sweet. I might start offering little bonuses to subscribers as well (backgrounds and downloads), so might be worthwhile signing up eh?
Go on, you know you want to!
You can signup by clicking the ‘newsletter’ tab at the top on the menu or by following this link here:
Wohey! ‘Our Londinium 2012′ is now open at the Museum of London! Go check out the hard work by the youth panel and the team over at the museum, lots of cool stuff to be seen as well as some of my doodles dotted around. Plus its free!
Watch the teaser trailer below that I helped illustrate for the promotion of it (this is also playing in the main entrance of the museum)…
Check out a preview video on what to expect from the exhibition:
Also my illustrations have been put in the Metro and Evening Standard yesterday (20th June) as promotion:
Not only that there are postcards and posters being placed around London. Now the special thing about the postcards is if you find one and return it to the museum you could win a custom pair of converse doodled by me! So get looking at cinemas and music venues to find them!
Hi guys, just an update on my recent work with the museum of london for their new exhibition (releasing very soon! – 22nd June). I was asked to write a blog post for their website on the work I did and explaining how I approached the project. This can be read here…
Another feature! étapes, the international magazine has done a small feature on my recent work including the Museum of London which you can visit below… They have included a few old experimental pieces which I guess are liked in the eye of the beholder! hah.
Hi all, this is a bit of a delayed post but been kept busy with work and going to LA!
Following on from the announcement of my collaboration with the Museum of London with their new summer exhibition, ‘Our Londinium’ I was featured in the Design Week blog with some info about the work and exhibition. Very happy to have been mentioned on there! View it on Design Week here
Also I was featured on the London College of Communication’s blog which can be viewed here as well as the Alumni newsletter. – Cheers guys!
Thanks to everyone for the great comments about the work!
Last year I was commissioned by the Museum of London to produce a series of illustrations as a visual identity for a new exhibition to coincide with the Olympics called ‘Our Londinium 2012′. They asked me to adapt my doodle style to incorporate modern day and roman objects to build a larger final image. The objects that would make up the final image were all chosen by the museum’s youth panel ‘Junction’. The same panel that chose the doodle style for the exhibition! (Cheers guys!). From the very start the nickname ‘The Doodlist’ was given to me, think it might catch on!
The illustrations will be used for the marketing and internal displays of the exhibition which runs from 22 June 2012 until 2014. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project and meeting the panel that have helped organise it all. Can’t wait to see it all come together!
More info: “The Museum of London is working with young people and artists over two years to create bold and imaginative installations in its popular Roman Gallery and other key spaces in 2012.The project will feature new sculptures, creative films, animations and sound, witty and thought-provoking insertions of contemporary objects, drama performances, Latin-inspired poetry slamming and other exciting events…”
A recent article on the guardian website talks to the Junction panel, read here
Last year I got invited to design a t-shirt for The Salvation Army, from what I’ve heard it’s raised a lot of money so far which is fantastic news and I recently got shown this photo of a group of Aussies going to Kenya and Fiji wearing my shirt along with other designs from M. Brady Clark and Neighborhood Studio

The exhibition itself including extra illustrations I was commissioned to do including famous sites in landmarks in london such as St Pauls, Wembley Stadium, London Eye etc:
I’ve had a fair few requests recently asking whether I will be selling any items such as prints of my work (mainly the doodle style). Even prints of my enormous ‘circle of life’! (I do have plans to try and get this somehow reproduced). However I’m keen to know what you lot might like to buy with my illustrations on.
Following on from the Computer Arts feature on me (and representing my uni – London College of Communication), the uni blogged about the feature and has some words from CA themselves about my work.
“His ‘Pulled Apart by Horses’ box set had an eye-catching cover with great use of colour and graphic elements, whilst the packaging was contrastingly more mono-tone and illustrative”, says Becca Allen, Designer at Computer Arts. “Olly has a good eye for detail which is demonstrated in all of his submitted projects.”
In the September issue of Computer Arts Magazine (Issue 192) I have been featured in their Graduate Showcase 2011 for Graphic Design! It shows a few of my uni projects which were part of my final year at the London College of Communication. Following on from this I went to a workshop organised by Computer Arts with Dan Moore from Studio Output. The event involved a live brief designing a logo/logotype for Ministry of Sound. It was an interesting day and a great task that was set! I will post my results once I’ve tweaked them a bit. Many thanks to the team at CA!
As I have already posted before, my degree show was last week and it has been a joy this week watching people enticed and drawn in by my work. As part of a day of invigilation I decided to set up the camera once again and to continue my stop motion and to add more detail to the work. (I feel I could keep going for months on it). This allowed me to chat to passersby and tell them more about my work. It also gave me a chance to look around at the plethora of other fantastic design amongst the rest of my year, great inspiration.
On June 30th we had our graduate degree show at the London College of Communication. It was an overwhelming success with far more people than what I was expecting to turn up. There were 5 pathways of my course showing (BA Graphic Design & Media) and I feel we all put on a cracking show! I did enjoy watching people in awe at my large illustration (& accompanying video) and going on searching missions within it to find stuff – was a joy to witness. Some photos below hopefully aid what it was like.
The show is open all week at London College of Communication, Elephant & Castle. It’s worth coming down just to see my drawing in person!
On the 30th June (coincedentally my birthday) I will be participating in my final year exhibition at the London College of Communication as part of the Illustration pathway. It is an exhibition of the freshest and best talent ready to hit the design world and you’re all invited! It will run for a week so if you can’t make it to the private view then it will be up for a while.
In order to go to the Private View, please RSVP to events@lcc.arts.ac.uk
I recently designed this guitar pedal decal for a friend, Eighty Seven Percent who will be selling them along with more over the summer. This is a gain/boost. BIG.
Hey all, finally updated my site to be a bit more coherent and more structured to what I do. Hopefully it all works, any problems just give me an email or tweet!
Recently I was approached by Fulton Hawk who runs the Salvation Army WARdrobe apparel (http://www.merchline.com/thesalvationarmy/). This mainly consists of clothing created by designers in aid of a chosen area for The Salvation Army. All proceeds go to that cause. He was interested in me using my illustrative style and here are some of the initial ideas I hope to develop further. Already these have gone through a lot of changes but still got a few ideas I want to try out.
